Sure – more news about this stupid tooth. I feel like I’m stuck in the middle of “The Song That Never Ends.”
Yesterday I saw the Periodontist. Jeffrey Forgosh, DMD, in Concord. He took the gum tissue around the tooth and removed part of it as well as a sliver of bone tissue. What this did was created a margin of tooth surface that is available for the crown to adhere to when it is finally replaced 6 weeks from now.
It was a surgical procedure. One that I was wide awake for. He dumped a boatload of Lidocaine into my mouth, isolating the inferior alveolar nerve pretty effectively. He also numbed the area around the tooth for no other reason than to keep me comfortable while he was cutting and slicing away around the tooth itself. It took about a half-hour for him to do the procedure, and I got a look when he was finished. The amount of space that was made is surprisingly visible. And I have to go back to him next week to have the stitches removed.
While I was there he took a look at the area around my lower wisdom teeth, and he also thinks I need a consult to an oral surgeon to have them removed. I have to say that I think I’ve done well to keep them for 48 years. But I’ve got multiple people who specialize in the mouth telling me exactly the same thing. It may be a conspiracy, but I don’t think so. I think I have to listen and at least consider getting this done. So – that’s what I’ll do.
Anyway, I’m not as sore as I expected I would be. I’m not totally comfortable, but as long as I continue to use the pain medication as needed (Ketoprofen, a NSAID just short of the strength of Toradol), I should be okay. Plus I’m on anti-biotics again as a prophylaxis. It’s a good thing I’m not allergic to Penicillin, because that’s what I’m on for this.
So let’s hope for an easy work day tomorrow, shall we?

Gosh I sympathise with you over this. At least it did'nt hurt but not nice never-the-less. As someone who has worked hard to keep my 'Pearly whites'- and I am so much older than you - I can remember when if a tooth had decay out it came! How things have improved and having good crown work I know how difficult it can be to save a tooth sometimes. It is so important to good health and I wish you very good luck with the new crown work, If it can be done every tooth is worth saving.
