The Calm Before…

Here it is. Sunday afternoon.

In less than 24 hours I will be having skin moved from somewhere on my body to a spot on my heel not an inch square. And it will put my on my back for a little over 2 weeks with another 2 weeks on crutches to follow, just for good measure.

Although I am stressing a little bit, overall I am at peace with the whole process because I know what to expect. That is more than I could say for when I had the Achilles repair. That morning I was a basket case, and my anxiety levels were really, really high.

That was then.

I spent a little over an hour getting the materials I needed to replace the mailbox, as I said I would. It is white, just like our previous mailbox. But it is not rusted, or dented, and the door is not hanging off of it, unlike its predecessor. I am not going to letter it – I figure if the postman can’t figure out who we are by now there is no point. Besides, the previous mailbox had the name of the original owners of the house on it. That, I can say for certain, was pretty funny. The poor postman sometimes didn’t know whether he was coming or going when it came to delivering mail to our house. He still has trouble sometimes, but at least he knows me by name and by sight. He should – I don’t get out much…

I realized that the previous post – Fr. Don’s homily – was post number 400. I’m pleased that I hit another milestone.

Since I’m rambling and enjoying another beautiful day (it is stunning up here – about 55 degrees F with a mix of clouds and sun), I will start to close out this post. All said, I will probably not get to post for a few days as I don’t know where I am going to be when. It is unlikely that I will write tomorrow as I expect to be in a drug-induced haze for a big chunk of the day, and when that wears off I will likely be utilizing pain medication for both the donor and graft sites. I will try to post Tuesday, but there are no guarantees of that, either. One way or another, I will be back on the air in a few days.

Stay safe, all. Pray for me.

Walt, I'll have fingers and toes crossed and I'll throw a a prayer out there as well. I'm looking forward to hearing about how it all turns out and reading about your recovery and return to work. All the best my friend. Give 'em hell!

Thanks, bro. I always appreciate the good words. And, as I said, I definitely plan on continuing the saga while I'm confined. If nothing else it will keep my mind occupied. I can't ask for a great deal more than that, I don't think.

John and I will mention your name in our morning prayers before he leaves for work. Then, we will continue to add a few periodically during the day. So if you feel a little love going out to you it's all the way from MA. As they say eveythings coming up roses. Wishing you all the success and a quick and speedy recovery.
