As I’m writing this post on the Acer, I’m watching the HP laptop back up my old Outlook files. When that is done, I’m going to move them onto the Acer. After that, I’m going to wipe the HP clean and start from scratch with it.
I didn’t realize how painful it would be to back up Outlook. In the 10-plus years I’ve used it, I don’t think I’ve ever done anything quite like this, in terms of migrating files from one computer to another. For some reason, this whole experience has been tough. I suppose that comes from not having had to do this in a very long time, either for myself or for another user. But – I have nearly full functionality on the Acer now, including Bluetooth capability. I had to spend a small amount of money ($29 on a Bluetooth dongle) but it was worth it as I can print to our HP Photosmart printer without effort. Now if only I can get ActiveSync to function properly… I had problems with ActiveSync before; just trying to get it to work at one point was a nightmare. And it does work on this machine as advertised when my phone is connected by USB. Bluetooth, not so much. I keep running into a problem where the phone is unable to create a serial port. And I don’t have a clue why or where to start as documentation for all of this is sparse.
With all of that said, I’m pretty happy with what I’ve done. I believe I’ll be ready when classes start in just over a month. and I’ve discovered that I can type as fast (if not a touch faster, perhaps) on this than I can on the larger keyboard. I’m actually a little blown away by that. But I’m not complaining.

Yay! I so wish early on before you were into this process I'd thought to mention something like "PC Mover" which supposedly *moves* everything from one computer to another. Not expensive and fast, so they say. What an accomplishment, though, Walt! And the typing thing on a keyboard a tad smaller? Very cool indeed!
