Right before I loaded the editor I use to write blog postings, I noticed that I did something really stupid: yesterday was Tuesday, not Wednesday. If you look at the title of yesterday's post, I titled it thinking it was indeed Wednesday. I don't know where my head was when I did that, but looking at it today made me realize that I'm a blithering idiot.....
Another entry in the wound care diary: today is a bad day. I saw the wound doc this morning, bright and early. He took one look at the wound as it stood and decided it was time to debride the last piece of eschar off of the middle surface. I knew this wasn't going to be good when he asked me if I'm allergic to Lidocaine/Novocaine, which I'm not, but it still didn't do anything for my peace of mind.
Shortly thereafter, one of the nurses walked into the exam room and introduced herself - Jane is her name. She the only one of the three nurses (Pam and Marlene are the other two) that I haven't met yet. Very nice, just like the others. Pam I knew from when she worked in the Emergency department, so I have that level of comfort. Anyway, she started preparing my wound site for the debridement procedure by putting a dressing underneath my leg and washing down the wound site with Hibi-cleanse. Anything Iodine-based would have been a problem as I have an allergy to it, so Povidone, Betadyne, anything like that is out.
A few minutes later the doc came back, and they drew up a 10ml syringe full of Lidocaine. He then proceeded to anesthetize my heel - that hurt like a m$(#*%#-f@_#(@$.... But once it was numb, and it didn't take long, he went to work. Dug out an area of eschar that went approximately 5-7mm into my heel. Sent the tissue to pathology and cultures to the lab. And they took another picture. I need to bring an SD card to my next appointment; maybe they'll give me copies that I can post.....
One thing is certain; it is really uncomfortable now.
So I have to go back to see him next Tuesday. One of the things I'm going to ask him is whether or not a trip to the Hyperbaric chamber is an option for treating this. Considering how long this has been going on for, it may be justified, but I don't know whether or not he'll go for it. We'll see.
On an unrelated note: my wife's treadmill was delivered today. She's excited....

The wound was a complication from the cast post-surgery. I had swelling, and my attempts to get an appointment to have the cast re-made went nowhere. The ortho guy lost his mind when he saw the pressure ulcer that developed on my heel from the cast.
Needless to say, it has been a rather uncomfortable ride ever since...
