Harry Chapin was always one of my favorite storytellers. His death in 1981 at 38 was a terrible tragedy, and I remember thinking that there would be nobody like him ever again.
He was unique. And as far as I can tell, there has been nobody since who has been able to tell stories like he could.
Today was a terribly rainy, nasty, icky day. Between the weather and the mood I was in for most of it, it wasn’t especially good. Sort of put me in a dark mood; one that is sort of appropriate for Harry Chapin’s music. And I’d forgotten that I’d put one of his live albums onto my iPod.
“Taxi” has a really interesting story behind it. At some point, I’ll find and put up his song “Sequel” – a continuation of the story. This video – though not my favorite performance of this song – is still worth sharing. Enjoy.

GREAT to hear this song again. Reminds me of another similar concept by Dan Fogelberg "Another Auld Lang's Syne" --- perhaps a "kinder gentler" though as poignant version in a different way. We've lost Dan Fogelberg, too (2007) also well before he should have gone.
Taxi is my favorite Harry Chapin song.
