I read that statement, and it made me really angry.
As far as I am concerned, Richard Phillips deserves more than what he is getting. I understand that there is a level of delicacy involved in trying to get him back, and I know the right assets are out there to get him back. That said, however, I think that the military option needs to be employed now. The pirates have shown – and continue to show – that they aren’t going to give up. And there are other pirate vessels in the area trying to find them. This development says to me, at least, that the clock is ticking.
We really need to use force against this scum.
The worst part of all of this is that our President appears to be floundering around in trying to figure out how to deal with this. As I recall, similar things happened when Carter was President and we had hostages in Iran…
But he has no problem bringing pizza from St. Louis to the White House. What’s up with that?
The lifeboat – very simply – needs to be blown out of the water. Perhaps that will give any pirates out there cause to be afraid.
The French, by the way, got it right.

They are not afraid of the Americans, because they are smart enough to know that right now there is nothing to be afraid of.
Obama will follow his leftist lawyerly instinct to treat this as a crime, not as an act of barbarism and war.
Do everything necessary to get Phillips back, sink the small boats, sink the mother ships. Identify, isolate, and burn to the ground the villages which serve as their bases. Destroy both their ability and will to commit acts like these.
This is war and throughout history the only way to win is to destroy the ability and will of your enemy to fight.
It worked in Greek times, Roman times, throughout European history, in the Indian wars, World War I, and up until World War II. Only when this formula (simple to conceive, much harder to execute) was NOT followed have nations lost wars or had them drag on interminably.
You are right about not following the formula. It affected me personally in 1983 when 3 Marines who I was close to were killed in the Beirut Bombing and one killed by a sniper about a week before.
All beacause the people in charge didn't have the will to get dirty and do things the right way.

I didn't say the President did the right thing. I said the Navy SEALs did their job. As did France when they had their troubles with pirates. And I applauded the actions of both.
From 1982-1984 we had a problem in Lebanon where U.S. Marines were put into the difficult position of not being able to shoot back. Because of that, 241 Marines, soldiers, and sailors were killed by a suicide bomber.
Our President at the time was a Republican, unlike our current President.
As for our current President, I have made no secret of my disappointment in his actions thus far. Over anything he's done; he has not impressed me with the way in which he's acted with many things that have gone on, including this situation. In fact, I don't think anyone knew what he had in mind. His prerogative not to comment, though, and I acknowledge that. However, I didn't crap all over him, either.
Further, Obama signed the operation order to do the mission. It was absolutely the right decision for him to make.
