Well Then – It’s Official

I was cleared to go back to work today. No restrictions on my activities, per the ortho guy. I am released for full duty.

Awesome...

I am extremely pleased. And I worked hard to get there. I will continue to work at this; the left leg especially is going to take quite some time to get it back to where it was before all of this began. However, I promise to be diligent at getting it done.

One thing I wanted to do publicly is thank everyone – you all know who you are – who have been so incredibly supportive and generous during my enforced down time. I could not have endured all of this without the love, prayers, occasional cajoling, frequent teasing, and overall wonderful example – at least to me - of what friendship really is. I consider myself truly blessed because I can number my friends in the “many”...

Now, a number of people have asked me when I am actually going back to work. The timetable looks like this:

  • I am going back to work at Cataldo on Friday, May 22, in Roslindale. I’ll be there on Sunday, May 24, and again on Friday, May 29. Starting Thursday, June 4, I will be back on my normal Thursday/Saturday schedule in Roslindale.
  • I imagine I will be back at Goffstown Fire as soon as I get a physical schedule with the Occupational Health doc that the department uses. That will not be scheduled until this coming Monday at the earliest. However, once that is all said and done, I will be back working on Tuesday nights. The earliest that this will happen is after May 31.
  • I will be able to pick up shifts at Rockingham and at Tri-Town after May 31 also. Understand that there is a method behind my madness with this: if I were to go back to work everywhere at the same time, the likelihood that I would end up flattened by it all is extremely high. I am simply not willing to put myself in that position.
  • Racing season at Rockingham Park starts on June 6. My guess is that during live racing I will be working there on Wednesdays and possibly either Friday or Sunday, depending on the need. However, since I will likely be setting the schedule again this year, I am going to spread it out as much as possible so that other people can have the 8 hour Wednesday if they want it.

At any rate, that is what will be happening. I am looking forward to going back to work for a number of reasons: not only will I be able to work with people I know and care about, but I’ll be earning a paycheck again. Simply put, that will make a huge difference in my ability to function somewhat normally, and I should be able to play catch-up with the things I’ve had to hang on to over the past 8 months.

As time goes on, I will talk more about this. Comments are always welcome, and I will always answer questions to the best of my ability.

And soon, I’ll be able to write about what I like so much: The Job. Count on it.

There's some good news! Easing your way back in sounds like the thing to do.

Who's doing EMS as NHMS these days? I remember when it was Raceway, but that was before Alert bought them out.

Last I knew it was Speedway Services. Owned by Golden Cross. I believe they still have the contract, and I haven't heard differently...
