Here it is, March 28th, and we are getting yet another freaking snow storm! While people are saying that it will be a record-breaker for total snow fall in a given winter (the record is 122", and we're at 116 right now - and it technically isn't winter anymore!!!) I am not looking forward to dealing with the potential for stupidity on the part of I-93 that goes through Manchester. Chances are good that there will indeed be knuckleheads on the road that will have forgotten all of the lessons on safe driving they've learned this past winter. I truly hope I'm wrong, but I'm not confident about that.
My peers at work nominated me for a Star of Life. I'm truly honored, and it is the second year in a row that I have been nominated. The Starts of Life program is sposored by the American Ambulance Association that recognizes EMS providers, communications center personnel, and others that are involved in our line of work for achievements, career accomplishments, heroism in the line of duty, and all such manner of good work. Truly, I don't know what I have done to deserve being nominated - two will be chosen and will go to Washington, DC, in May to receive their award - but I am still honored. However, given the choice of this award or being able to watch someone I treated walk away from a cardiac arrest, which do you think I'd prefer to have? Any of you that read this, and feel the same way I do, already know the answer to that - I think it speaks for itself.....
My mom was up for Easter and she had dinner with us, got to visit with her grandchildren, and we simply got to enjoy her company. It was a good day. She's had her share of problems lately, mainly with her health, and that she was doing well made it all the better.
My wife and I have been discussing the presidential race and the whole political situation quite a bit lately. It's a tough conversation because we don't agree on everything. We agree on a lot, but not everything, and the dialogue is interesting because of it. For example, she's not a fan of Barack Obama, and I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton. Neither of us likes John McCain very much. But it's funny - she'd vote for Hillary under the circumstances, and I am of the opinion that none of the three of them are worth a vote. But I know in the end I have to vote. What is really tough is that for most of my voting life I've been registered as a Republican. This time around I went Independent so that I didn't have to be tied to the Big Red Machine. I guess the reason why is that our current President has soured me on GOP politics and policy with the things he's done and the decisions he's made. It wouldn't be so bad, but the man should never have won the 2000 election the way he did. And he never should have put us in a war we had no business entering in the first place. We went to Iraq for the wrong reasons, but ironically enough, we went to Afghanistan for all of the right ones. So what do we do? And my quandary with the current political situation remains.
It looks like the snow is finally starting to abate a little bit. It hasn't stopped, but it's not as heavy as it was when I started writing. But it's starting to look a lot like sleet..... They say 60 degrees this weekend - I'll believe it when I see it.

Congratulations on the nomination!
Thank you!!
Have you received my email?
Congrats on the nomination. As it comes from peers, it must be that much more meaningful.
It is.... I wasn't selected, but that doesn't matter - it's the nomination that counts....
FPA - I didn't get e-mail from you.
