New Year's Day 2009

To my readers: Happy New Year. I wish you a healthy and prosperous 2009 in whatever form it finds you.

As for this day, it dawned cold, clear, and windy. At 7:15PM it is still cold and clear with no wind and a quarter moon in the night sky.

For me, this is a good sign of what will hopefully come our way. The clarity of the sky mixed with the cold breeze outdoors symbolizes clearing of the old, of bad smells, anything that doesn't help us to be healthy. While some among us would say it is not comfortable because of the cold, I would submit that sometimes we need to be where it is not comfortable. It helps us to grow, to become better than we are, to continue to change. Like plants reaching for the sun, our ability to move outside of our own zones of comfort is one of the characteristics that make us all human beings. And we should celebrate that.

Take a minute. Appreciate your ability to look up at a full moon on a cold, clear night. Appreciate your ability to feel the chill breeze or see the stars in the sky.

Appreciate your ability to feel.

KNEW that was Pat Metheny in the background of the gorgeous full moon YouTube video. Nice mini mind vacation break :-) I really enjoy your writing, Walt, and the pictures and videos, too. Thanks for the "mention" in one of your posts, also:-) Thank you as well for the editing software concepts so I'll actually be able to write in paragraphs. You're right about the learning curve...I checked it out...it'll take me a little time. And "In the Bleak Mid Winter" is one of my favorite carols, too. The coldness of that "full moon" night brought to mind the first verse: "In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow;In the bleak midwinter, long ago." Celebrating the ability to feel. Amen oh yes indeed :-)
