I got a new cell phone yesterday.
I’m a Verizon Wireless subscriber, and because of this I have the ability every two years to replace my phone. The new phone is a Smartphone – in other words, about the only thing it doesn’t do is put bread in your toaster. I’m still working on learning all of the features it has, plus I discovered it runs Windows Mobile. So, as a matter of course, I found I can’t synchronize the calendar and the contacts list unless I re-install Microsoft Outlook. The only way to do this, I found, is that I had to re-install the entire Microsoft Office suite on my laptop.
I haven’t completed everything yet, but I also installed Windows Live – specifically the blog writer and the photo gallery tools. Once I figure out whether or not I like them, I will take care of cleaning up my machine so that the 40GB hard drive I have won’t get full up. Right now I have 10GB of space left, so tomorrow I have to get cracking. Plus, I need to try to re-install Active Sync – before I put Office back on my machine I couldn’t get halfway through the installation before it stopped. Let’s see if my efforts pay off….

I may be too late, but you can install Outlook without the rest of Office. Do a Custom install, right-click on all the program you don't want, and select "Entire Feature Will Be Unavailable." Make sure Outlook is set to "Entire feature will be installed" and you should be good to go.

There were some other tools I needed to install anyway, and I started playing with Windows Live (which I like, surprisingly). So I have sort of done a makeover on the applications I run....
